Gov. Scott Statement On Passover

On March 25, 2013, in News Releases, by Staff

Today, Governor Scott issued the following statement regarding the start of Passover:

“At sundown tonight, our Jewish friends will gather to celebrate the start of Passover.  This holiday recounts the Jewish people’s emancipation from slavery and exodus from Egypt.  With God’s blessing, the Jewish people overcame Pharaoh’s tyranny and set forth to reestablish their civilization as a free nation in the Promised Land.

“While Passover is the story of the Jewish people, its message of liberation is universal.  As Ronald Reagan once noted, ‘the struggle for freedom and the battle against oppression waged by Jews since ancient times is one shared by people everywhere.’   Passover is a fitting time to reflect on the abundant blessings and liberties we enjoy as Americans.

“Ann and I extend greetings and best wishes to all Floridians celebrating Passover. Chag sameach!”
