Governor Scott’s Statement on the Passing of Sheriff Jerry Whitehead

Governor Rick Scott made the following statement today regarding the passing of Union County Sheriff Jerry Whitehead. Governor Scott also announced the appointment of Garry Seay as Interim Sheriff of Union County.

Governor Scott said, “Ann and I are saddened by the passing of Sheriff Whitehead. He was a sheriff’s sheriff. Sheriff Whitehead dedicated his life to protecting the families of Union County, and we are grateful for his nearly 30 years of service as sheriff. Our hearts and prayers are with Sheriff Whitehead’s family during this difficult time.”

Garry Seay, the Chief Deputy Sheriff of the Union County Sheriff’s Office, has been appointed for a term beginning December 18, 2013, and ending January 17, 2014.

Governor Scott said, “I am confident that Chief Deputy Sheriff Garry Seay will keep the families of Union County safe during this interim period.”
