  • Feb. 1, 2016: Governor Rick Scott participates in a briefing with the CDC on the Zika virus (via phone). 
  • Feb. 3, 2016: Governor Rick Scott signs Executive Order 16-29 directing the State Health Officer and Secretary of the Florida Department of Health to declare a public health emergency in Miami-Dade, Hillsborough, Lee and Santa Rosa Counties following the confirmation of nine travel-related cases of Zika in Florida (29 counties have been included in this declaration to date).
  • Feb. 11, 2016: Governor Rick Scott participated in a call with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) for Florida health care providers.

  • April 6, 2016: Governor Rick Scott and Interim State Surgeon General Dr. Celeste Philip hosted a conference call with Florida Mosquito Control Districts to discuss ongoing preparations to fight the possible spread of the Zika virus in Florida. 
  • April 29, 2016: Governor Rick Scott held a Zika Preparedness Roundtable at the Florida Department of Health in Lee County.

  • May 11, 2016: Governor Rick Scott traveled to Washington D.C. to meet with federal leaders (listed below) on the importance of preparing for Zika.

  • May 12, 2016: Governor Rick Scott had meetings with HHS Secretary Sylvia Burwell and Senator Roy Blunt on the importance of preparing for Zika.

  • July 18, 2016: Governor Rick Scott held meetings (via phone) with Orlando Sanford International Airport Executive Director Diane Crews, Southwest Florida International Airport Executive Director Robert Ball and Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport Executive Director Mark Gale on Zika preparedness. 
  • July 22, 2016: Governor Rick Scott held meetings with Port Tampa Bay President Paul Anderson and Sarasota International Airport Director Fredrick Piccolo regarding Zika Preparedness.
