Florida Children and Youth Cabinet: Human Trafficking Workgroup

Chaired by Department of Juvenile Justice Secretary Wansley Walters, the Human Trafficking Workgroup is focused on identifying ways in which Florida can put a stop to human trafficking. Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery which affects children, adults, citizens, residents and foreign nationals alike. A complex issue, human trafficking is generally categorized as either sex trafficking or labor trafficking. Initially, the workgroup chose to narrow its focus to the intricate issue of child sex trafficking in Florida. The workgroup has representation from the Office of Adoption and Child Protection, Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF), Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), Florida State University Center for the Advancement of Human Rights and other stakeholders.  Workgroup members have begun researching best practices throughout the nation as well as monitoring proposed legislation addressing child sex trafficking.
