Florida Children and Youth Cabinet: Interagency Background Screening Workgroup
Chaired by Department of Elder Affaris Secretary Charles Corley, the Interagency Background Screening Workgroup was tasked with developing a strategy for the criminal background screening of the professionals, laypersons and volunteers that serve vulnerable populations within Florida, and recommending potential legislative changes to implement this strategy. The workgroup membership is composed of the Department of Children and Families, the Agency for Health Care Administration, the Department of Elder Affairs, the Department of Health, the Agency for Persons with Disabilities, the Department of Juvenile Justice, the Department of Law Enforcement, and the Department of Education, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and Division of Blind Services. Activities of the workgroup were coordinated by the Department of Elder Affairs. The issues and recommendations addressed by the workgroup are intended to be applicable to specific agencies that license or conduct background screening for persons working or volunteering with vulnerable populations (children, elderly and persons with disabilities). The workgroup continues to work with members of the Florida Legislature in an attempt to implement its recommendations.
