Gov. Rick Scott and Fla. Cabinet Issue Resolution Recognizing Major General Emmett Titshaw’s Military Service

Today, Governor Rick Scott and the Florida Cabinet issued the following resolution recognizing Major General Emmett Titshaw for his outstanding service to our state and nation during his distinguished 45-year military career. Major General Titshaw retires as the Adjutant General of Florida on March 29, 2015.

Governor Scott said, “During his four years of service as the Adjutant General of Florida, I have been honored to directly work with Major General Titshaw to keep Florida families and visitors safe while also supporting the men and women of our military. General Titshaw is a true military hero, and has been committed to the readiness and well-being of our National Guard members. I am proud to recognize him today for his service to our country and our state.”

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Major General Emmett R. Titshaw, Jr. began his military career with his enlistment in the Florida Air National Guard in 1970 and received a direct commission that same year; and

WHEREAS, Major General Titshaw completed Undergraduate Pilot Training as a Distinguished Graduate at Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Major General Titshaw held numerous command and staff positions in the Florida National Guard, to include Air Operations Officer, Fighter Squadron Commander, Deputy Commander for Operations and Commander of the 125th Fighter Wing, Director of Operations, Chief of Staff, Assistant Adjutant General-Air, and Commander of the Florida Air National Guard; and

WHEREAS, Major General Titshaw served as the Battle Commander of the Combined Air Operations Center, Continental North American Aerospace Defense Region, Deputy Commander of the Joint Force Headquarters of the Florida National Guard and Joint Task Force Commander for Hurricanes Katrina and Wilma; and

WHEREAS, Major General Titshaw served as the Air National Guard Assistant to the Commander of the Air Combat Command, Acting Director of the Air National Guard and Air National Guard Advisor to the United States Air Force Chief of Staff; and

WHEREAS, Major General Titshaw flew over 16,000 hours as a commercial airline pilot and over 4,500 hours in military aircraft, to include the F-102, F-106, F-16 and F-15; and

WHEREAS, Major General Titshaw’s military decorations include the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the Florida Cross, the Florida Distinguished Service Medal, and the Florida Meritorious Service Medal; and

WHEREAS, Major General Titshaw is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Guard Association of the United States, Committee Chair for the Air National Guard Force Structure and Modernization Committee of the Adjutants General Association of the United States, and a former voting member of the Air Reserve Force Policy Committee; and

WHEREAS, Major General Titshaw serves on the General Officer Advisory Councils for Counterdrug, Cyber and Youth ChalleNGe, and the Florida Defense Support Task Force; and

WHEREAS, Major General Titshaw, through his tireless energy and commitment, contributed immeasurably to the readiness and well-being of members of the Florida National Guard the Department of Military Affairs; and

WHEREAS, at the national level, Major General Titshaw helped create a more unified and collaborative approach to identify and resource existing and emerging missions for the Army and Air National Guard; and

WHEREAS, Major General Emmett R. Titshaw, Jr. culminates his distinguished 45-year career as the Adjutant General of Florida on March 29, 2015.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Governor and Cabinet of the State of Florida do hereby congratulate

MAJOR GENERAL EMMETT R. TITSHAW, JR.

on his outstanding service to our state and nation, and express appreciation to him for his great sacrifice in protecting the freedoms enjoyed by all Americans.
