Governor Rick Scott Awards Gainesville Businesses with Governor’s Business Ambassador Award

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Governor Rick Scott recognized Dr. Bill Petty, the Chief Executive Officer of Exactech with the Governor’s Business Ambassador Award for his commitment to creating jobs. Exactech has grown into an international business with 650 employees, including 350 in Gainesville and 25 in Sarasota. The Governor’s Business Ambassador Award is given to individuals for their efforts in creating jobs and opportunities for Florida families.

Governor Scott said, “I am proud to present Dr. Bill Petty and his team at Exactech with the Governor’s Business Ambassador Award. Under Dr. Petty’s leadership, Exactech has grown into a successful global business that employs hundreds of Floridians. Florida’s private sector has created 679,000 private-sector jobs in under four years, and we must continue to work to make Florida the best place for job creators to flourish.”

Exactech develops and markets orthopaedic implant devices, related surgical instruments, biologic materials and services to hospitals and physicians. The company also manufactures many of its orthopaedic devices at its Gainesville facility. Exactech was founded in 1985 by Dr. Petty, his wife Betty and biomedical engineer Gary Miller, Ph.D. Dr. Petty, an orthopedic surgeon, wanted to provide doctors with improved orthopaedic implant devices and educational tools to improve the care of patients suffering from joint diseases.
