TALLAHASSEE – Governor Charlie Crist today announced the appointment of John “Jay” Hurley of Fort Lauderdale as a Broward County judge within the 17th Judicial Circuit.
“Jay’s experience as a Navy officer, attorney and father will allow him to serve the people of Broward County with fairness and impartiality,” Governor Crist said. “I am confident his familiarity with court procedures and respect for the legal process will be beneficial as he considers each case that comes before him.”
Hurley, 47, is in private law practice focusing primarily on criminal trial law with John Hurley P.A., formerly known as Hurley and Hurley P.A. Previously, he served with the Broward State Attorney’s Office from 1990 to 1992. He also served as an officer in the United States Navy from 1984 to 1992. Hurley graduated from Florida State University and received his law degree from St. Thomas University School of Law.
Hurley will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Jay Spechler, whose resignation was effective March 31, 2008.
