TALLAHASSEE – Governor Charlie Crist today appointed Theresa Flury, of Tallahassee, as executive director of the Guardian Ad Litem Office, to succeed Angela Orkin, for a term beginning December 22, 2008, and ending December 8, 2009. She previously served as the supervising attorney for the Second Judicial Circuit Guardian Ad Litem Program.

“Theresa’s prior trial advocacy and Guardian Ad Litem efforts have provided her with a wealth of knowledge,” Governor Crist said. “Her experience ensures she can continue the tremendous improvements we have already achieved in our services to Florida’s children. Theresa has dedicated her life to serving those less fortunate and ensuring their needs are met.”

The Guardian Ad Litem Program is a partnership of community advocates and professional staff providing a voice on behalf of Florida’s abused and neglected children. The program pairs staff with community volunteers who get to know each child on an individual basis and advocate for their best interests. Additionally, the Guardian Ad Litem Program uses a team of well-trained volunteers, case coordinators and program attorneys to provide services to Florida’s children.

Previously, Flury was a state attorney and public defender for the Second Judicial Circuit. Additionally, Theresa served as general counsel for the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation and the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice.
