GOVERNOR CRIST CONGRATULATES 60 FLORIDA HIGHWAY PATROL TRAINING ACADEMY GRADUATES

TALLAHASSEE – Governor Charlie Crist today congratulated the Florida Highway Patrol’s (FHP) 60 newest state troopers. During a ceremony in Tallahassee, the 118th Basic Recruit Class graduated from the FHP’s Law Enforcement Training Academy. The ceremony marked the conclusion of an intensive training period that prepares recruits for careers as Florida state troopers and instills the Patrol’s core values of service, courtesy and protection.

“I am proud to see the newest class of state troopers begin their careers in public service,” said Governor Crist. “They will help protect the millions of Floridians and visitors who travel our roadways daily, and many will save lives. Choosing to become a state trooper is a noble decision, one that requires personal sacrifice.”

Governor Crist addressed the graduating class during today’s ceremony and expressed his gratitude for the brave service of all troopers. The FHP also honored Brian Mann with for achieving the highest grade point average at the academy. Mann is slated to serve in Troop C in Pinellas Park. In addition, the Patrol honored Jason Brown for demonstrating extraordinary courtesy and dedication during training. He will report to Troop D in Orlando.

“The class has persevered through 27 weeks of demanding education and physical training, earning them the privilege to wear a state trooper uniform,” said Colonel John Czernis, director of the Florida Highway Patrol. "We are proud of the Florida Highway Patrol’s history, and we are pleased to have new troopers to carry on our commitment to a safer Florida. They will be a valuable addition to our future efforts to save lives.”

Florida’s newest state troopers from the 118th class will report for duty by February 26, 2010. A complete listing of the names and duty assignment locations for members of the 118th Basic Recruit Class is included as an attachment to this press release. The Florida Highway Patrol continues its recruitment efforts with the 119th Recruit Class, scheduled to begin in April 2010.
