Drug Free Community Program (DFC)
The Governors Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Program is funded through the Title IV “No Child Left Behind Act of 2001” that is administered by the United States Department of Education. Title IV supports programs that prevent violence in and around schools; that prevent the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs; that involve parents and communities; and that are coordinated with related Federal, State, school, and community efforts and resources to foster a safe and drug-free learning environment that supports student academic achievement, through the provision of Federal assistance.

Background
The Florida Office of Drug Control (ODC) is pleased to announce the FY 2008 competitive discretionary grant program. Drug-Free Community grants provide funding for communities to implement evidence-based programs and activities that (1) prevent youth drug use and violence; (2) involve parents and communities; and (3) are coordinated with related state, school and community efforts and resources to foster a safe and drug-free learning environment that promotes student academic achievement.
