TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, at a meeting of the Florida Cabinet, Governor Rick Scott recognized Palm Beach Gardens Police Officers Robert Ayala and Rafael Guadalupe with the Governor’s Medal of Heroism for their swift actions to respond to a choking 14-month-old, saving her life.

Governor Scott said, “It is an honor to recognize these deputies for their quick actions to save a child’s life. In Florida we have the best law enforcement officers in the world, and these officers, without hesitation, jumped into action to help – these men are truly heroes.”

About the Medal of Heroism Recipients:

In July, officers Robert Ayala and Rafael Guadalupe of the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department witnessed a 14-month-old choking on a chicken nugget at The Gardens Mall. The officers immediately jumped in to save the girls life. A video of their efforts was widely circulated by local and national media.
