Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, First Lady Casey DeSantis presided over the first meeting of the Florida Children and Youth Cabinet. As Chair of the Cabinet, the First Lady is responsible for presiding over cabinet meetings and for creating a strategic plan to facilitate effective, positive results for Florida’s youth.

Joining the First Lady were fellow cabinet members Department of Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran, Agency for Health Care Administration Secretary Mary Mayhew, Department of Children and Families Secretary Chad Poppell, Agency for Persons with Disabilities Director Barbara Palmer, Department of Juvenile Justice Secretary Simone Marstiller and Senator Lauren Book among other notable leaders.

“As I began learning about the critical work of the Cabinet and its mission, I immediately knew I was going to be a part of something special,” said First Lady Casey DeSantis. “I believe this is a unique opportunity to work alongside an amazing group of individuals who are committed to ensuring that Florida’s children and families have the right resources and tools to succeed.”

The Florida Children and Youth Cabinet was created to ensure that the public policy of Florida relating to children and youth promotes interdepartmental collaboration and program implementation. This allows services designed for children and youth to be planned, managed and delivered in a holistic and integrated manner to improve the self-sufficiency, safety, economic stability, health and quality of life of all children and youth in Florida.
