Florida Ranks Second Among All States In Job Creation Numbers

23,200 jobs created in August 2012 ranks second behind only Texas

With a continually improving statewide economy, Florida created more than 23,000 jobs in the month of August, ranking it second among all states according to a new U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report. Florida ranked behind only Texas among all states for biggest increase over the month in job creation.

Florida’s August job creation total of 23,200 continued a trend that saw the state experience positive job growth month to month for 11 of the past 14 months, and positive annual job growth for 25 consecutive months. Florida’s August total of more than 28,000 new private sector jobs created was the highest over-the-month change since April 2011. The state’s unemployment rate of 8.8 percent was 1.7 percentage points lower than the year-ago rate of 10.5 percent and 2.3 percentage points lower than December 2010. Additionally, Florida has gained 153,000 private sector jobs during that same span.
