WHAT THEY ARE SAYING…Lawmakers Applaud Governor Scott’s Advocacy and Proposed Projects for Commercial Oyster Fishery Disaster Funding

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio said, “I applaud Governor Scott for quickly identifying disaster assistance projects to bring needed relief to those suffering in the Apalachicola Bay region. Now it’s time for NOAA to do its job by approving these projects to help Florida’s oyster industry recover. These projects will deliver economic assistance to the families, businesses, and industries of Franklin County who have been so severely impacted by this disaster and help temporarily restore the region’s natural resources. I will do everything I can to get this federal assistance out the door and to Florida without delay.”

U.S. Representative Steve Southerland said, “I am pleased we’re one step closer in our fight to provide Franklin County residents with the relief they so desperately need. I appreciate Governor Scott’s leadership in making recommendations that will help secure a healthy future for Apalachicola Bay and its oyster fishery. Now it’s up to NOAA to act quickly, approve these projects, and get Franklin County’s economy back on the right track.”

Senator Bill Montford said, “Restoration of the damaged oyster industry is vital to the economic sustainability of the Apalachicola Bay region. I am appreciative that Governor Rick Scott took action to make sure these funds were made available for restoring this industry and affected communities. This money will ensure Florida’s economy is thriving and creating jobs for the next generation.”

Representative Halsey Beshears said, “I’m thankful for Governor Rick Scott’s proactive approach to acquiring these funds for affected Florida families and for choosing meaningful projects that will enable the Apalachicola Bay region to recover as quickly as possible. We need NOAA to approve these recommended projects quickly!”
