Tallahassee, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointments of Jeffrey Wood and David Kenton and reappointments of Maria Schneider, Tom Powers and Cathy Donnelly to the Children’s Services Council of Broward County. These board members are appointed by the Governor from a list of candidates selected by Broward County’s Board of County Commissioners.

Jeffrey Wood

Wood, of Wilton Manors, is an attorney at Tripp Scott. He specializes in areas of construction law, banking law, education law, real estate transactions and representing non-profit organizations. He received his bachelor’s degree in political science from the State University of New York and his juris doctorate from Pennsylvania State University. Wood is appointed to a four-year term.

David Kenton

Kenton, of Coral Springs, is the senior associate director for enrollment management and services at Florida International University, where he also serves as an adjunct professor with the department of criminal justice. Previously, he served as the assistant dean for academic and professional development programs at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Office of Minority Education. He earned his bachelor’s degree in criminology, his doctorate degree in education from Florida State University and his juris doctorate from North Carolina Central University School of Law. Kenton is appointed to a four-year term.

Maria Schneider

Schneider, of Plantation, is the assistant state attorney for the Juvenile Division for the 17th Judicial Circuit. Since 1993, she has served as a lead attorney in the felony trial division, the sexual battery unit, the organized crime and gang activity unit and the career criminal unit. She received her bachelor’s degree from Florida Atlantic University and her juris doctorate from Nova Southeastern University. Schneider is reappointed to a four-year term.

Tom Powers

Powers, of Coral Springs, previously served as vice mayor of the City of Coral Springs from 2008-2014. He is a former Arizona state police officer where he worked for 21 years as a narcotics agent on the Mexican border. Powers is reappointed to a four-year term.

Cathy Donnelly

Donnelly, of Ft. Lauderdale, is the director of community relations for Castle Group. Previously, she served as chair of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County. She is also a benefactor for the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and serves on the Community Foundations Art of Community Committee. Donnelly is reappointed to a four-year term.
