Pahokee, Fla. – Today, Governor Ron DeSantis was joined by Florida Lottery Secretary John Davis and former NFL Wide Receiver Anquan Boldin organized a vaccination event at Anquan Boldin Stadium. Today’s event is a continuation of the Governor’s ongoing efforts to identify areas where there may be difficultly in accessibility to the COVID-19 vaccine and serve diverse communities in Florida.

In addition to this event, the Governor in coordination with the Division of Emergency Management and the Department of Health has held 25 vaccination events in 15 counties, totaling in more than 13,000 individuals vaccinated. The Governor continues to prioritize Florida’s Seniors, looking for innovate ways to create additional vaccination sites, ensuring that Floridians 65 and older who would want a vaccine can receive one.

Florida’s Seniors First strategy was spearheaded by the Governor’s Executive Order in December of 2020, taking swift action to ensure Florida Seniors were prioritized. To date, Florida has continued to lead the nation by vaccinating the most seniors in any state – more than 1.3 million seniors.

The State of Florida has also partnered with Publix, creating 325 Pharmacy vaccination sites and local County Health Departments to stand up 77 community vaccination sites. Finally, the Governor set aside 1,500 doses to create a pilot program and deliver the vaccine to homebound seniors. As the state of Florida is able to acquire more vaccines, the Governor remains committed to keeping Seniors First.
