Tallahassee, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Teresa Martinez and Mark Turner to the Polk State College District Board of Trustees.
Teresa Martinez
Martinez, of Lakeland, is the President and Founder of the Institute of Spanish Communication. Previously, she was a Spanish and ESOL Teacher with Polk County Schools. Martinez has been involved with the Hispanic Club of Lakeland, the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Florida, Leadership Polk, Heart of Florida Hospital, Polk Vision and the Lakeland Institute for Learning. She earned her associates degree from Polk State College and bachelor’s degree in Spanish education from the University of Central Florida.
Mark Turner
Turner, of Lakeland, is an Attorney and Partner with Straughn and Turner. He is a Past Chair of the Polk State College District Board of Trustees and has supported the Polk State College Foundation. Turner is also a former member of the City of Winter Haven Planning Commission. After studying at Polk State College, he earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and his juris doctor from the Stetson University College of Law.
 
These appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
