Tallahassee, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of David Lawrence Jr. to the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University Board of Trustees.

Lawrence Jr., of Coral Gables, is Chair of The Children’s Movement of Florida. Previously, he was publisher of The Miami Herald, publisher and executive director of the Detroit Free Press and editor of the Charlotte Observer. Lawrence Jr. has served on the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University Board of Trustees since 2015, is Director Emeritus on The Everglades Foundation Board of Directors and is a former Chairman of both the Children’s Trust of Miami-Dade County and the Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade/Monroe. He earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Florida and an Advanced Management Program Certificate from Harvard Business School.

This appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
